Meet Erik

Erik Sexton is known as a plain-spoken professional with the unique ability to cut through irrelevant details to get to the heart of the matter, arrive at creative solutions that elude others, and bring people together to get business done. It is these innate talents that have contributed to his success as a commercial broker. He will bring these same talents—and his immense energy—to tackle the critical issues facing Nevada as our next District Two Assemblyman.

At only 33 years old, Erik is an Executive Vice President with the largest privately-owned, nationally-affiliated commercial real estate brokerage firm in the world. With more than 14 years of experience in the industry, he has a track record of success. A skilled negotiator with knowledge of different industries, Erik has spent his career working with and learning from local and national companies like the Wynn Las Vegas, General Motors, Paramount Pictures, Coca Cola, 99 Cent Only Stores, and The Venetian Resort.

Erik witnessed first-hand the innovative techniques and creative solutions these companies (and other fast food, medical, and manufacturing businesses) used to survive the 2008 recession. Erik applied these techniques to grow his business when others were closing shop. He feels strongly that the solution-oriented innovation used in the private sector needs to be applied to the public sector.

Erik graduated from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas with a BA in German. As a child he experienced public school, private school, and even home school. Seeing the strengths and weaknesses in each has made Erik passionate about education, which is why he will make improving Nevada’s education a top priority in Carson City.

Erik grew up in a large family that emphasized the importance of community. His grandpa Dudley, a retired Air Force Veteran turned businessman whose sense of adventure is an inspiration, was one of many heroes in Erik’s life. He’s also thankful for the strong women in his life who helped raise him, like his grandma Oma, a double Ph.D. who speaks five languages. She always told him, “Good or bad, everything is an adventure!”

Erik loves to travel and grew up in a bi-lingual family, which taught him how different cultures can work together. He grew up in California hitting the local beach, landed in Montana where he learned to hunt, but he fell in love with Nevada the day he arrived at UNLV. He started his global business career in Germany on the development team with one of the largest retirement home systems in the world. Since then he’s traveled extensively through Asia, Central America, and Europe.

Erik has made District Two his home and loves being close to Red Rock Canyon and Calico Basin. He supports several conservation organizations, believing that wilderness isn’t something we inherit from our parents, but borrow from our children. When he’s not hiking with his dog, biking, or rock climbing—or cheering on our Golden Knights—Erik enjoys volunteering with the Boy Scouts.

Erik’s track record of success, creativity, boundless energy, and a natural disposition for helping others make him the ideal person for District 2 Assemblyman.
